Al- Shabaab is an Al Qaeda linked militant group that is  mainly located in Somalia but, the group’s operations extend to the Somali borders with Kenya and Ethiopia, and into Kenya.  Al-Shabab started out as a militia that splintered off from Islamist parties in the mid-2000s.They are mainly known for inflicting the sharia law in areas it controls, including stoning women accused of adultery. They were created to fight against the Somalian government, in which they don't agree with. In 2006, when Ethiopia invaded Somalia the Al- Shabaab militant group began to rise  in prominence as a member of the resistance to Ethiopian invasion. Also, they began growing when they decided to create more, smaller militant groups throughout Somalia. The objectives of this group are unclear and many say that they vary, although The group also violently persecutes non-Muslims, including Christians, and is a major threat to humanitarian and other international workers, according to the U.S. State Department. Knowing this, many people come to believe that they are trying to save the Muslim faith, which they think is being taken out by war Al-Shabab also is known to have desecrated the graves of those from other religious groups, including moderate Islamic clerics.
    Since Al-Shabaab is still an active militant group, their attacks are usually weekly. For example, October 19,2013,
rebels claim responsibility for suicide bombings that killed at least 13 in Somalia. October 19,2013, At lesat 13 people are killed as an attacked from the Al Shabaab group blew himself up in a restaurant near a military base. September 21, 2013, Al Shabaab militants invaded a Nairobi shopping mall throwing grenades and firing indiscriminately at shoppers. The subsequent siege lasted 80 hours and resulted in at least 67 deaths. It is also estimated that al Shabaab has 1,000 to 4,000 fighters within its ranks.
